Farmer on a Buffalo
36.4 x 24.8 cm
A well observed country scene by an unknown artist from the Meiji period (1868 - 1912). A farmer smoking his pipe can be seen at dawn crossing a bridge on a buffalo. He is turned towards a mill house where the mill wheel is being driven by the diverted stream that he is crossing. Sheaves of cereal are hanging to dry on an old pine tree at the waters edge. A couple of houses can be seen to the right over the main river from which the mill stream has been diverted as the sun rises between the two mountains in the background. Excellent impression with good colours, in very good condition with a little creasing.
