Waterfront Confrontation by H - Japanese Woodblock Prints - Various Artists
35.4 x 70.4cm
A wonderful and rare triptych by Kunichika (1835-1900). Plenty of activity in this colourful scene at the waterfront showing 2 samurai possibly abducting (or protecting !?) a lady who stands behind them whilst a third samurai approaches from the right raising his rattan hat. Evocative night sky behind them with subtle `bokashi` and silhouetted boats their lanterns alight. A very fine impression with fresh colours, blind printing ` Karazuri` in places on their clothing. Good condition in three separate panels, a few repaired wormholes, creasing and marks on the edges.
